Besançon, European microtechnology cluster
The Franche-Comté region, situated at the crossroads
of Europe, enjoys an exceptional location. It is also one
of the most industrialised areas in France. It has easy access
to the large industrial markets and particularly those of
Germany, Switzerland and Italy. This strategic position moreover
promotes exchanges with the European Union (70% of transactions)
and with Switzerland, one of its largest customers.
Franche-Comté’s SMIs work directly with large
global groups in the following fields: automobile, aeronautics,
biomedical, watch making, mechanical optics, luxury goods,
jewellery, control and measurements, the environment, telephony,
electronic money, etc. The dynamism and skills of the sector’s
companies lead to innovation and give birth to new occupations
that link microtechnology to optics and to electronics…
All the expertise co-exist for processing materials, achieving
their finishes and assemblies, and integrating other components.
This exceptional microtechnological density of skills make
up Franche-Comté’s activities of which the city
of Besançon is
currently the European hub.
